RailTel Completes Centralized SCR for IP Based (VSS) at 10 Railway Zones

RailTel has completed work of setting up Centralized Security Control Room for IP based Video Surveillance (VSS) at 10 Railway Zones. These centralized control room will display video feeds from VSS installed by RailTel at stations of respective zones.
Railway Board has entrusted RailTel, with the work of providing IP based VSS at all A1, A, B, C, D and E category railway stations and coaches of premium trains and suburban EMU and setting up Centralized Control room integrating the camera feed. This project is being executed by utilizing the Nirbhaya fund aimed at providing better safety for women. Currently 269 stations have been provided with IP based VSS by RailTel. Work at 31 more stations in progress and will be completed soon. RailTel has also floated tender for this work at 456 stations.

These CCTVs are being networked on optical fiber cable and the video feed of the CCTV cameras is being displayed not only at local RPF posts but also at a centralized CCTV control room at divisional and zonal level. The CCTV cameras of stations and video feeds are being monitored at 3 levels to ensure enhanced safety and security at Railway premises.

Network Management System (NMS) has been also been provided for monitoring of Cameras, Server, UPS and Switches which can be viewed from any web browser by authorized personnel. Sh. Gajanan Mallaya, GM/South Central Railway has inaugurated the Integrated VSS Control Room for 17 stations of SCR today. The centralized control room is now live at 10 zones (East Central Railway, Southern Railway, South Western Railway, Western Railway, West Central Railway, Central Railway, North Eastern Railway, North Western Railway, North Central Railway and South-Central Railway). Work at remaining 6 zones is in progress.

Talking about this project, Puneet Chawla, CMD/RailTel, said ‘We will be completing the work at 756 stations by March’22. We are installing 4 types of IP cameras (Dome type, bullet types, Pan Tilt Zoom type and Ultra HD- 4k) to ensure maximum coverage inside the Railway premises. This will give an extra edge to the RPF officials to improve security.”

The recording of the video feeds form CCTV cameras will be stored for 30 days. This Video Surveillance System is expected to ensure better security of passengers at railway stations and railway property.
